 | All about us!
Hi all, tis me, Lady Bea, woofing at you from high atop my couch pillows. I have come a long way in my life. These days, many see that I live the life of a pampered pup. Filet mignon, hand peeled grapes, pearls and rhinestones, a custom made gown, specially fluffed couch pillows and belly rubs abound. My slaves are wrapped around my pawsies. However, this was not always how I lived........ The people at the shelter told me my old people didn't want me anymore. Instead of trying to find me a good home, they just left me on the street and never came back. It was positively pawful. I wandered around not knowing where to go. Dinner time came and went, with no one to feed me. It was cold, and there were lots of big dogs. I was scared. I had to eat garbage. That gave me bad breath, and bad breath is not good for your social schedule. Then a man wif a net came and took me to another place. There were lots of dogs there. They put me in little cage. It was so scary that I could smell the fear. Days passed, and none came to look at me. Then, the people there talked about me going to sleep! I didn't understand, 'cause I wasn't tired! Then, a day later, a nice lady came and picked me up. I was going on a trip! Little did I know I would meet my future foodslaves that day. We rode in the car for about a nickzillion years. Finally we stopped, and it was time for me to go to a different car. It was driven by a really nice girl. I found out she was going to be my foster mom, and be staying at her house for a while. She gave me good pets on the way home in the car, and I was already winning her heart. The she-slave said that I walked in to her house and took over her heart, her home, and her couch pillows. She isn't kidding! The slaves have really nice couch pillows, and it had been awhile since I rested comfortably on one, since I was in that pawful shelter. I loved their house. I sniffed Arnold (who is twes handsome) and we hit it off immediately. The only problem C@TS! The slaves had those evil kitties. No bother, Arnold was there to defend me from them. I decided that these were the people to adopt me. So, I set about getting the process moving. They are good slaves. It was easy. The "look" coupled wif pitiful whines worked like a charm. A week later, the decision was made, and I became what they call a foster failure. Lots of houndies ask how I do it. How do I get the slaves to wait on me hand and paw? Easy! It's all about bassetude! It is a basset's responsibity to show their slaves the golden rule of basset ownership. You see, people own dawGs, plain and simple. But we are bassets, and bassets are not dawGs. Bassets own their people. It is important this be established early on in the relationship. The quicker it is established, the better trained your slaves will be. |

Hi! I would like to introduce you to my brother Arnold. Isn't he handsome? He has been with our slaves longer than me, since January of 2000. Like me, he has learned to woof it up and life the good life. Arnold needed that, because his old people were very, very mean to him. It's hard for Arnold to woof about the time he spent wif his old people. You see, they were not very nice to him. They kept him outside, wif 15 other dogs, locked in a little fenced in area. There was no shelter for any of the dogs, and it was tough. The nasty man who fed them would throw food over the fence, and it became a free for all. Arnold had to fight for his dinner. The dogs never saw much of the humans that owned them. When the did, the man would come into their enclosure, kicking his way through the dogs, until he got the dog he wanted. He had big boots on, so the kicks hurt bad and made the dogs scared. Sometimes he would hit them wif his hand. Sometimes he would hit them with a pot or pan. One day, Arnold was smart, and he ran by his bad man when he opened the gate. He too, was caught by that man with a net, and taken to a scary place, just like mine. Because Arnold had been treated so badly, he was scared of people. Every time a person tried to give him pets, he would cower and back into a corner. He thought they were going to hit him. He was never mean though. It didn't matter to the animal control people. They decided then and there that Arnold was unadoptable, and scheduled him to be put down. Thankfully, someone involved in basset hound rescue, got to Arnold, in the nick of time. He was placed into foster care. That is when my slaves met him. He says he picked our slaves. He claims he worked the he-slave first 'cause he knew he was the one that would make the decision. Well, whatever he did worked, and our slaves adopted Arnold. At first, Arnold was a little nervous when people moved fast. But love soon taught him he was in a place where there was nothing to fear. That "unadoptable" dog, is now a total lap lug, sleeping wedged between the slaves each night. He too has a special pillow, and is spoiled, just like me!

Hi, these are those darn c@ts I was telling you about. The big white one on the left is named Lynx. The she-slave found him under a car in a mall parking lot. He was covered in oil. Being the soft-hearted person she is, she picked him up, and took him home wif her. He was the first animal the slaves adopted. They think he is about 6 years old now. We let him think he runs the house. Often times, we fall victim to his drive by "whackings". Therefore, we try to steer clear of him. But, we have come to a pretty good understanding, and for the most part, get along ok. The scary looking gray kitty on the left is Neber. He is the only animal our slaves have had since he was a baby. He came from a friend of theirs. Their kitty had a litter and Neber was the last one left. He was the runt of the litter. If no one had adopted him, he would have been taken to a shelter, and who knows what would have happened. So, the she-slave convinced the he-slave (like she always seems to do) that they needed another kitty, and voila, Neber appeared. Neber is a little more skittish than Lynx is, and Arnold likes to chase him. I tried that once but learned that is NOT a good idea. All of a sudden Lynx (the darn white c@t) came out of no where and whapped me on the nose. That was no fun. Therefore, I leave the kitties to Arnold.
Here is another picture of those c@ts. Don't let 'em fool you...they are NOT as innocent as they are trying to look in this picture! |
